Suriya’s film “Karuppu” (“Veera Bhadrudu” in Telugu) was scheduled to premiere in theaters worldwide early this morning. However, the film failed to arrive in cinemas after running into last-minute financial hurdles, forcing the producers to halt the release.
As of this morning, all scheduled shows across the world have been cancelled. The producers are now trying to resolve the issue and are hoping to release the film by the afternoon or evening.
Pending dues of nearly Rs 50 crore are said to be the main reason behind the crisis. Suriya has been struggling to score a theatrical hit for several years. His acclaimed films “Jai Bhim” and “Soorarai Pottru” (“Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Raa” in Telugu) premiered directly on OTT platforms, while his recent theatrical releases failed to make an impact at the box office.
Adding to the pressure, Dream Warrior Pictures, a banner closely associated with Suriya’s family and friends, is also reportedly dealing with pending dues from previous productions that need to be cleared with financiers and lenders.
These financial complications reportedly prevented the film from receiving the final clearance for release. Suriya has now stepped in personally to sort out the issue and ensure the film reaches theaters soon.
