‘Cinema Tree’, a 140-year-old Nidra Ganneru tree (Samanea saman tree), featured in hundreds of films. The tree came to be known as ‘Cinema tree’ recently collapsed due to floods.
As the news of the tree got destroyed, film lovers around the world flooded the social media with the posts urging government and nature lovers to restore the tree.
Director Vamsy, who made many classic films including ‘Sitara’ and made the tree part of his movie sequences, visited the Kumara Devam, near Kovvuru in Andhra Pradesh, and interacted with the officials. He said he would help in efforts to restore the tree.
He mentioned that his phone flooded with calls and messages since the news of the tree collapsing. “I filmed this tree and the area in 18 of my films. I love Godavari region since my childhood and have many fond memories of this tree,” he added.
