Bollywood’s veteran actress Asha Parekh will receive the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest film award in India, for the year 2020. The award was announced for her contribution to Indian cinema.
For the year 2019, Rajinikanth was honored with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Due to COVID-19, the awards were delayed by a year.
Asha Parekh was one of the top actresses in the film industry in the 1950s and 60s.
Teesri Manzil, Kati Patang, Pyar Ka Mausam, Do Badan, and Chirag were some of her popular films. As a leading heroine, she formed popular onscreen pairings with actors like Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, and Rajesh Khanna.
She also starred in Gujarati (her mother tongue), Punjabi and Kannada films. She also played mother to Amitabh Bachchan in films like ‘Kaalia’.
The 79-year-old actress has remained unmarried. She was earlier honored with Padma Shri by the government of India.
