Putting an end to long-standing speculation, actor Karthi has indirectly confirmed that “Khaithi 2” has been shelved completely. In a recent media interaction, Karthi stated that he has no clarity about the project, indicating that it is no longer on the cards. The actor has since moved on and is signing new films, without considering the sequel.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj shot to fame with Khaithi (2019), starring Karthi in the lead. The film emerged as a massive success in both Tamil and Telugu, paving the way for Lokesh to helm bigger projects. However, the director is now fully occupied with Allu Arjun’s upcoming film, tentatively considered as #AA23, which has been officially announced with Mythri Movie Makers as the producer.
According to industry insiders, the producers of “Khaithi” were unwilling to meet the hefty remuneration demanded by Lokesh Kanagaraj. In contrast, Mythri Movie Makers reportedly agreed to pay him a career-best fee of Rs 75 crore, prompting the director to prioritize #AA23 over “Khaithi 2.”
Sources further add that Karthi’s current market makes such a massive investment risky. If Lokesh were to be paid Rs 75 crore, Karthi’s remuneration would also need a significant hike, pushing the overall budget beyond Rs 200 crore. Given the high financial risk involved, the makers have decided not to proceed with Khaithi 2.
