Director Gowtam Tinnanuri once won hearts with his emotionally rich storytelling in “Malli Raava” and “Jersey,” with the latter even earning a National Award. His subtle narrative style and strong character arcs made him one of the most promising filmmakers of his generation.
However, the disappointing result of Kingdom starring Vijay Deverakonda has put him in a challenging spot. Adding to the setback was the underwhelming performance of the Hindi remake of “Jersey,” which further slowed his momentum.
Interestingly, even before “Kingdom” went on floors, Gowtam had completed a small-budget youth-centric film titled “Magic.” The film revolves around three youngsters and their musical aspirations. One of the leads is Sara Arjun, who recently gained attention with “Dhurandhar.”
Despite the setbacks, industry circles say Gowtam still commands respect for his writing sensibilities. He also shares a strong creative bond with composer Anirudh Ravichander, who has worked on his films, including “Magic.”
The big question now is whether Gowtam will rework “Magic” and release it soon to regain his footing, or move on to announce a completely new project.
