Vijay–Sangeetha Divorce: Court papers reveal timeline and allegations

Fresh details have emerged from the family court filing of Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, whose divorce petition has now come into public focus. The documents outline the timeline of their marriage and the events that allegedly led to the breakdown of their relationship.

According to the petition, Vijay and Sangeetha first registered their marriage in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998. Sangeetha, a UK citizen, holds a B.Sc in Biomedical Science. The couple later solemnised their union in a traditional Hindu ceremony on August 25, 1999, at Rajah Muthiah Mandram in Egmore, Chennai.

They have two children: son Jason Sanjay, aged 25, and daughter Dhivya Sasha, aged 20.

As per the filing, Sangeetha stated that in April 2021 she discovered Vijay’s alleged affair with an actress. The petition notes that between September 2021 and February 2022, the couple underwent counselling in an attempt to resolve their differences amicably. However, the matter was deferred considering their children’s academic commitments.

The court papers further allege that Vijay continued to travel abroad with the said actress, and that photographs from these trips were regularly shared on social media.

The petition claims that in 2024 the alleged relationship continued, and that between August 2024 and February 2025, legal notices and correspondence were exchanged through counsel.

Sangeetha has stated that, at present, their marital relationship exists only on paper. The filing also mentions that if necessary during the proceedings, she may disclose the name of the actress and seek to implead her in the case.
